Their son, Diego, added to his family name the title Maduro, which means mature or senior. In 1477, Ferdinand (whose great-grandmother was Jewish) and Isabella petitioned the Pope for the right to establish an Inquisition.The idea was to punish those who were practicing their Judaism while calling themselves Catholic.
